The Clinical Immunology Training Days:
The number of higher specialist trainees in immunology is too few to organise regional training days as in other specialities. A programme of national training days is therefore organised and sponsored through the ACP and BSI with the following aims:
- to complement the local training undertaken by higher specialist trainees in immunology
- to utilise the expertise in different areas of clinical, laboratory and academic immunology available at different centres across the UK
- to provide an opportunity for higher specialist trainees from different centres to meet, compare training experiences and discuss areas of common interest and concern. This is particularly important in a small speciality.
What’s involved:
Immunology trainees, allergy trainees, and immunology clinical and biomedical scientists intending on sitting the FRCPath examination are welcome to attend the training sessions (see below for eligibility criteria):
The training program is based around a three-four yearly cycle with three to four meetings each year consisting of two-day meetings being run by a single centre or by two geographically linked centres. The programme for each meeting is arranged by the local organiser allowing centres to teach to local strengths and interests. Each day will be focused around a broad topic, with teaching on the basic immunology relevant to the topic, clinical and laboratory aspects. There may also be interactive sessions for trainees to present and discuss their own material. The aim of the meetings is to provide trainees with insights that may not be available in their local centre. These training days are not a substitute for local coverage of the JRCPTB curriculum.
Organisers are asked to schedule a regular 30 minute trainee forum slot into each meeting.
The meetings are available free of charge to ACP and/or BSI members.

The training days do not aim to provide a comprehensive overview of the JRCPTB curriculum, but rather complement it with areas of relevance to all trainees.

Eligibility criteria:
To register, you need to meet the following criteria:
- be an ACP or BSI member* and
- be a medical trainee/ specialist registrar in immunology and allergy intending to sit or having passed the ACICE and/or FRCPath examination or
- be a clinical scientist (immunology) intending to sit the FRCPath examination or
- be a biomedical scientist (immunology) intending to sit the FRCPath examination
*If you are not a member of either organisation and you meet the other criteria, you can register for a small fee (currently £50) per session
